I have faltered. I have staggered. My efforts have dwindled. I have doubted.
I am not nearly where I should be for many of my goals. I haven’t blogged enough. I haven’t exercised enough. I haven’t tweeted enough. I haven’t read enough. Earned enough. Crossworded enough. This of course is by no means an easy challenge. I knew that from the beginning. However I would be lying if I said I haven’t been a bit discouraged lately. It is a LOT to do! And I have felt the near overwhelming pressure of not keeping pace with my goals.
I have no doubt been in a funk.
In life, we all face uphill battles from time to time. It is how we endure and overcome. Often times, the very things that seem to be all wrong, and putting you off your pace, in reality are what can motivate and drive you the most. It is all a matter of perspective. You can get down and feel defeated, or you can press on. Get better. Prove yourself. Typically you just need a little kick in the ass. Luckily and happily, I got mine! I am pumped. I am excited. I am ready to get back on track. Currently I am scheduling more tweets, I am reading more. I am exercising more. This is just the end of the beginning. I have a whole lot of year left, and plenty of time. Let’s do this.
I was running today, and ran past a high school runner. He held his fist up, smiled at me, and said “Keep it up!”
I will do just that.
Attitude is Everything.
Change your perception. Stay Positive. Get yourself kicked in the ass.
Although admittedly, if you ask a couple of my closest friends, and I quote: “Dude. You are StarLord”. I am hardly going to complain about being compared to the cocky, sarcastic yet somehow-still-charming heroic pirate type character of what is undoubtedly the smash hit of the summer. If you have seen Guardians of the Galaxy, you clearly understand what I am talking about. If you have not seen Guardians of the Galaxy, I hate you. Fix it. Immediately. (No seriously, stop reading and go see it – I’ll wait.) Also please NOTE: There is one mini, pseudo spoiler at the bottom of this post.
So I had the extreme pleasure of logging some travel miles this weekend, while visiting Philly for the amazingly beautiful and fantastically fun wedding of my friends Brian and Angela! I want to first wish them Congratulations once again, and although they will (hopefully) not be reading this, as they are on their way to their honeymoon, it was such a pleasure to be able to share in such an amazing day with both of you. Angela you looked stunning! Brian you looked, well, the same as always (That’s a comment to how dapper he looks consistently, not to how “regular” he looked at the wedding). Thank you for inviting me to be a part of it!
Secondly I have to linger for a moment longer on the wedding. Brian’s parents are florists in Philadelphia (Lamsback Floral Decorators – I don’t care if you’re not into flowers, TRUST me when I say check out their gallery), and designed the entire ceremony and reception hall – every single table was different! This wedding belongs in a magazine. A magazine that features impossible floral arrangements and petal perfect designs. Also word on the street was that Angela and Brian gave them free rein, and actually didn’t see the final outcome until they entered the rooms just as we all did, in awe. That makes it all the cooler. I’ve attached some pics (courtesy of Chris Plentus!) and as good a photographer as he is, they still don’t do the room justice!
Last week I had the pleasure of once again participating in a program that has truly helped shape the person I am today. The week long MASC summer conference that I work at helps teach high school student council members about leadership, communication, teamwork, goal setting and problem solving. It is amazing that just one week of the year can have such a lasting impact on me, the staff and hundreds of student leaders every year. I count myself lucky to still be a part of the MASC program and be able to hopefully influence and help students.
That said, I got next to nothing done goal-wise! But that is quite alright. The week is obviously worth it and I have plenty of time. So now, I am back on track and back in the swing of things.
I did rack up some travel mileage though! A trip to NH and then travelling to camp in Worcester, and a friend’s wedding up in Princeton, MA.
More updates will come soon, I just needed to post something since I feel like it has been months since my last update. Thanks to everyone in the MASC organization for consistently providing one of the best weeks of the year! I already miss it.
